Check out this amazing opportunity!
Vision New America (VNA), a group founded in 1996 that aims to increase civic participation among underrepresented groups through its public policy internship programs, educational forums and community events, will be organizing a forum on immigrant issues.
Titled Immigration Nation: The Story of Us, the event will take place at Conference Rooms A and B at De Anza College, from 1pm to 4pm on August 17. The event is aimed at educating the community on the history of immigration and cultural identity of immigrants in America today.
Immigration Nation will be put together completely by high school and college students in the Silicon Valley, and features a number of notable speakers, including Pedro Reyes, the Events and Media Coordinator at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts. The forum will also include a prize draw and an art exhibition, with an emphasis on works that evoke the immigrant identity or lifestyle in America. Also featured will be a short documentary telling the stories of a number of immigrants and how they fit in the diverse melting pot that is the United States.
Through this educational forum, VNA hopes to spread awareness about immigration matters and the hardships many immigrant communities face. It will also be a great opportunity for community leaders to meet and discuss immigration issues pertaining to the Bay Area. We hope to see you there!
